Tule Baleeje

TULE BALEEJE Tule Baleeje is the title of a series comprised of three images, almost like a triptych, combining intervention in the landscape and photography. It means «black dunes» in Peule, one of the languages spoken in Mauritania, where the series was created. In these images showing the Mauritanian desert, the surface of the dunes is painted with natural black pigment. The intervention with the black pigment darkens the outer «skin» of the dunes to indicate them, like a dark spot that melts, sliding down the slopes of the sand. In the series there is only one survivor

TULE BALEEJE Tule Baleeje es el título de una pequeña serie compuesta por tres imágenes, casi a modo de tríptico, que combina la intervención en el paisaje y la fotografía. Significa “dunas negras” en peule, una de las lenguas habladas en Mauritania lugar donde se ha realizado la serie. En esta serie la superficie de las dunas del desierto es “pintada” con pigmento negro, oscurecida su piel externa para hacerla desaparecer y, al mismo tiempo, para señalarla como una mancha oscura que se derrite a lo largo de las inclinaciones de la arena. Hay un único superviviente. Una acacia rompe las líneas que construye incesante el médano. Pero también podría no ser real, colocada artificialmente para hacer el paisaje más habitable. Realidad y ficción conviven y se construyen a través del paisaje imaginado.
