Zanjón

ZANJÓN The images that make up this series present, along the Paseo de la República, also called the Zanjón, (one of Lima’s most important avenues) the gardens decorating the sides of said thoroughfare. The construction of this fast track is submerged or excavated, taking advantage of its sides to create small portions of garden and lawn. But we find ourselves before the control and privatization of these margins through a process involving the commercial ‘domestication’ of nature by means of advertising. Different companies have taken over their portions of the lawn and, in exchange for their maintenance (and, therefore, its existence), they have determined the designs of the sections corresponding to them. Each of the plots features, through the design and color of their plants, the advertising of their sponsoring companies, as they depend on these businesses for their survival.
